For most benefits you must file an Intent (a short online declaration) on the DGFT portal before you take the loan, ship, or get certified. The portal then issues a UIN.
Several schemes only apply if your product's 6-digit HSN code (its official classification number) is on the Government's notified list.
Your UIN (the number issued against your Intent) is valid only for that financial year or 12 months. Carry it into a new year and the claim can fail.
Terms, explained once: IEC = your export licence number · Udyam = your MSME registration · Intent = the declaration you file before you start · UIN = the number the portal gives you to hand to your bank · HSN = your product's classification code.
