Getting Started the Right Way
Every week, I meet people who tell me, “Sir, I want to start an export business… but I don’t know where to begin.”
And you know what? That’s completely normal.
When I began, I had no shortcuts either. What helped me — and what now helps thousands of others — is understanding the basics clearly and applying them step by step. You don’t need a huge capital, English fluency, or a family business background. You just need clarity, courage, and guidance.
What You Should Know Before You Begin
1. Choose Your Product Wisely
Don’t blindly follow trending products you see online. Instead, look at what’s made in your region — textiles, spices, ceramic items, food ingredients — and check if there’s real global demand for them.
Many successful exporters I’ve trained started with what was already familiar to them.
2. Understand Documentation
IEC, GST, RCMC, shipping documents — these are the essentials. A small mistake can create a big issue at the customs level. But once you learn the right process, it’s actually simple.
3. Know Your Pricing
I’ve seen exporters who sell a container and then realize they made zero profit. Why? Because they didn’t calculate their pricing properly — freight, packaging, commission, taxes — everything matters.
If you don’t calculate it, you can’t control it.
4. Build Relationships, Not Just Leads
People often search for buyers like it’s a lottery. But this is a relationship-based business. Talk to people, meet them at exhibitions, understand their needs. That’s how long-term business is built.

A Personal Note from My Journey
I made my share of mistakes when I started.
In one of my earliest orders, I misunderstood the buyer’s requirement and ended up sending the wrong grade of product. That cost me the deal — and a lot of confidence. But it also gave me the biggest lesson: there is no shortcut to learning by doing.
Over time, I developed my own step-by-step system. Now I share the same real-world insights with my students — no fluff, only what works.
